St Lawrence

St Lawrence is no longer in use: services are held instead at All Saints, some 30 yards away. There is one war memorial in the church: a black metal plaque that reads:

SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF
ERNEST GEOFFREY CRISP
2ND LIEUTENANT 15TH BATTALION
ROYAL WORCESTERSHIRE REGIMENT
AND ONLY SON OF GEORGE CRISP
OF EVESHAM KILLED IN ACTION IN
FRANCE DECEMBER 16TH 1915 AND
INTERRED AT SUZANNE AGED 24
FOR GOD AND COUNTRY
FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH
THIS TABLET IS ERECTED IN LOVING MEMORY
BY HIS FATHER MOTHER AND SISTER

Note: Ernest Crisp is listed on the Abbey Park memorial. Paul Hughes informs me that Ernest had been a pupil at Chipping Campden Grammar school, so he is also listed on the Grammar school memorial.


All Saints, Evesham

There is a book of remembrance in a glass topped wooden case. Comparison of this with the names on the Abbey park Memorials would be instructive, but the case is locked against casual pawing by the grubby hands of the general public. For now, I will just note its location.


And in the churchyard between the two churches:

There is a crucifix, facing the path from All Saints. On the base, it reads:
IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF
THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES
FOR THEIR COUNTRY
1914-1919
1939-1945
