Worcester, St. John in BedwardineWar MemorialOrdnance Survey reference: SO 840545 | Contents |
This memorial is just by the church.
The 1914-1918 names are basically laid out in four vertical columns. It
appears that some names were added at a later date at the bottom of the
columns, so they are not entirely in alphabetic order. There is a central,
narrower column containing the 1939-1945 names: presumably a later addition
on a part of the memorial fortuitously left blank. Otherwise, if all names
had been placed on the memorial at one time, the 1914-1918 columns would not
have needed extra names inserted at the bottom.....

Notes
1. John Watts is researching the WW I names on this memorial. He would be happy to share what information he has, and even happier to hear from anyone with information about any WW I casualty on the memorial. He can be contacted at:

2. Of the WW I names, Sidney Hugh Burgess, Frederick Stanley Farmer, Francis William Hemming, Charles Frederick Jones, Francis William Morris, Rupert Edward Roberts, Richard Wilfred Stevens, William Pullen Woodward, and possibly F. Haines, were all old boys of Worcester Grammar School, and are listed on that memorial. A book has been published about the men on that memorial; see the web page for information.
3. G. Rowberry and J. Rowberry were brothers. This information is from Polly Rubery (polly@rowberry.org), who is conducting a one-name study on Rowberry and variants. If you have information on these two men, she would like to hear from you, or if you are looking for further information, I recommend you contact her
