St Michael, Great Comberton, Worcestershire
List of rectors 1262-1918

Index

This list in the church is a large, framed sheet of calligraphy, apparently donated to the church as a memorial.
In the top right hand corner of the document is this brief description:

"In the Domesday survey there is mention of a priest at Great Comberton. The lower
part of the nave walling is 12th century: the chancel, rebuilt in 1861 with the old material,
is 17th century as are also the upper part of the nave and roof. The 15th century tower
stands inside the nave... The Advowson originally belonged to Westminster Abbey, from
which it passed to the Beauchamps and, through them, to Lord Latimer who married
Katherine Parr, widow of Henry VIII. Later, by sale, the Advowson passed too the Hanfords
of Wollas... On 10 August 1922, His Majesty in Council was pleased to approve the
permanent union of the two benefices of Great and Little Comberton and, on 6 June 1938
the Reverend William D. Lowndes was instituted to the united benefice."
